DANISH DANCE THEATRE FOR KIDS

DANISH DANCE THEATRE FOR CHILDREN AT THE OPERA (Ages 5–9)
Dance and movement at eye level for children, inspired by the company’s performances

Danish Dance Theatre for Kids invites all little adventurers aged 5–9 on a journey inspired by our performances. Together, we go on dream walks through sensory landscapes and obstacles, choreograph our own superhero duels and slow-motion flower battles, make stone sculptures dance, transform into imaginative dream catchers—and much more. The choreography, music, costumes, props, and scenography are always inspired by the repertoire of Danish Dance Theatre.

The content changes each time, so there is always something surprising and fun on the agenda! At the end, we gather it all in a small showing for the parents, where the children can present what they’ve created and experienced.

Through dance and movement, children learn to collaborate, listen, respect, and appreciate one another—values that reach far beyond the world of dance.

ABOUT OUR CHILDREN & YOUTH PROGRAMME
How can dance spark imagination, promote inclusion, and strengthen children’s confidence? Danish Dance Theatre’s Children & Youth Programme focuses on precisely these core areas. We aim to pass on the joy of dance and movement to Denmark’s new generations.

“We played spies, and we weren’t allowed to touch the ribbons. We had to jump, dance, use our balance and lie down at the floor to go through the obstacle course. It was so much fun,”
says 5-year-old Hannah about her experience with Danish Dance Theatre for Children.

Research shows that physically active, participatory encounters with contemporary dance can create close, inclusive communities and promote well-being, health, and self-esteem among children and young people. As Denmark’s national company for contemporary dance, we have a responsibility to strengthen and communicate the role of dance in society.

We take on that responsibility by making the potential of dance accessible to children and youth—both as an art form and as a form of expression—through interactive performance concepts and workshops. Dance helps us connect with our own bodies and with one another—our shared foundation for experiencing the world.
