A COLORFUL AND FABULOUS CELEBRATION OF LIFE IN ALL ITS GLORY
STUNNING COSTUMES, LIVELY DANCE, AND QUIRKY HUMOR
BLOODY MOON is a wild, entertaining, and vibrant dance performance filled with humor and sensuality. Here, a group dances their final dance while embracing life in all its splendor. Aware of life’s final and ready to overcome by a dizzying sensation as they approach the edge. BLOODY MOON is inspired by the famous work of the French thinker Georges Bataille on desire, eroticism, liberation, and madness, and marks the first world premiere for Danish Dance Theatre’s new artistic director, Marina Mascarell. Mascarell, who has created works for some of the world’s most renowned dance companies, including Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT), has created her fist work with the company’s dancers in a beautiful union that audiences will finally get to experience.
A DELIGHTFUL FEAST OF COLORFUL TABLEAUX
BLOODY MOON is a fireworks display of ecstasy and humanity’s primal instincts, with references to ancient deities, the commedia dell’arte tradition, and the Instagram era, where everyone chases the ultimate Insta-moment. On stage, the dancers embody, among other things, the fertility god Dionysus’s principles of pleasure, excess, chaos, transgression, play, festivity, and ecstasy—with a twist of madness.
LACE IS BLOODY HOT
The performance is visually stunning, featuring playful, deep-green creations, blood-red lace, and purple tulle, all surprisingly and comically integrated into the choreography. The music is rhythmic and lively, with percussion samples from Uffe Savery from Safri Duo, and the performance takes place on a beautifully decorated stage floor created by Marina Mascarell and the company’s dancers themselves. Without a doubt, BLOODY MOON is a performance that spreads joy and a zest for life, and we look forward to presenting it to audiences both nationally and internationally.
