yes – new large-scale dance biennale sets Copenhagen in motion
26 Aug–28 Sept 2026
In late summer 2026, yes – dance biennale 2026 launches as a new, large-scale dance biennale that, over the course of a full month, brings together key players from Copenhagen’s dance and performing arts scene to present the very best, most distinctive and moving work in contemporary dance and choreography. The partners have established the biennale with a clear goal: to unite forces within the dance and performing arts field and create a shared platform that captures the tremendous momentum the art form is experiencing right now—both nationally and internationally. The biennale takes place in 2026 and is the result of a brand-new, close collaboration between Danish Dance Theatre, Dansehallerne, Copenhagen Dances, and Sydhavn Theatre. Together, the partners have developed the format, this year’s programme, and thus the dance celebration that will sweep across Copenhagen as summer draws to a close.
From 26 August to 28 September 2026, audiences are invited to performances, talks, workshops, events, and artistic encounters across Copenhagen. The programme features major international hits, new experimental works by both national and international choreographers, participatory formats, and several festivals. The biennale unfolds on established stages, in smaller studios, and in the city’s public spaces, presenting dance with a wide artistic and formal range. The ambition is to create new connections between artists, institutions, and audiences, and to contribute to the long-term strengthening of the field—so that Copenhagen increasingly becomes a destination for dance at the highest level.
yes – dance biennale will take place every two years. Over time, it is set to grow and, in future editions, expand to include more participants and partners.
yes – dance biennale 2026 thus marks the starting point for a new national cultural event that elevates dance and choreography as a prominent and visible art form in the public realm.
