A few questions for our new dancer Martyn Garside

Danish Dance Theatre would like to welcome the British dancer, Martyn Garside to the company. Therefore, we have asked him a few questions so that we can get to know him a little bit better.  

 

 

*Why did you decide to become a dancer?

Seeing dance on TV and Grease the film. I wanted to be a T Bird and dance with the Pink Ladies, that was my starting point. 

 

*What has been the best experience in your career?

It is yet to happen.

Call for open audition for Danish Dance Theatre from February 15th – 16th 2014. We are looking for strong Contemporary dancers with good improvsational skills for the season of 2014/2015.

Saturday February 15th – audition for International Dancers

  • Doors open at 08:50am – Registration from 09.00. First group begins at 10.00.
  • Please take care of your own warm-up at Dansehallernes foyer before the audition starts .

Danish Dance Theatre on tour in China

Danish Dance Theatre is heading to China for the 4th time, the largest tour of China so far. Danish Dance Theater will be performing at some of China’s most recognized theatres in Shanghai, Beijing and Wuxi. Furthermore, the company is a part of the well-reputed ‘Shanghai International Arts Festival.’

The first stop on this autumn tour is Wuxi, where Danish Dance Theatre will be performing at the Wuxi Grand Theatre, said to be among the 100 most impressive architectural masterpieces. Read more here


Henrik Vibskov designing costumes for Stormen

The Danish multi-artist and avant-garde fashion designer, Henrik Vibskov, has said yes to design the costumes for Danish Dance Theatre’s touring performance ‘Stormen’. ‘Stormen’ is a performance with two works, where he will be designing the costumes for the work ‘Riverside’ with music by Agnes Obel.

Henrik Vibskov is the only Scandinavian who officially participates in the men’s fashion week in Paris, and has done so since 2003. Danish Dance Theatre is very proud to enter into this artistic collaboration in connection with our Danish tour, travelling to 27 different theatres all over Denmark. The World Premiere will take place on the 21st of January, arranged by Sønderborg Teaterforening.

 

One of Denmark’s leading pianists live on stage in RED

An agreement has now been made with the leading young pianist, Tanja Zapolski. Tanja is a modern-inspired classical pianist, and she will be playing Beethoven’s 32 variations in C minor Wo080 in connection with the performance ‘Red’.

Tanja has established herself as a renewer of classical traditions and a challenger of genre boundaries.

 

She performs with, among others, her Piano/Saxophone/Percussion trio Zoom, and has made the CD "If Power Asks Why", together with Martin Hall and the Mezzo-Soprano Andrea Pellegrini. Tanja makes up one half of the Piano Duo with pianist Rikke Sandberg, and their CD "The Piano Duo - Symbiosis" with Copenhagen Phil was released in 2012.

Danish Dance Theatre's Fabio Liberti chosen for 'Hannover Choreography Competition'.

DDT's dancer Fabio Liberti has been chosen to participate in the 27th 'Hannover International Choreography Competition', on the 29th & 30th of June.

Fabio Liberti has been employed as a dancer with the company since 2010. 

 

Fabio recently received the 3rd place at the Copenhagen International Choreography Competition. Here, he presented the piece 'Blinking', which can also be seen on the 15th & 16th of June in Louisiana's Sculpture Park, where Danish Dance Theatre will be performing his work. 

 

At the Hannover International Choreography Competition, Fabio will be presenting his piece 'Mitosis' performing it together with Alessandro Schiattarella from Ballett Basel in Switzerland. 

 

Welcome to the season 2013/2014

Danish Dance Theatre's upcoming season offers no less than four premieres, a tour to 27 cities all over Denmark and a performance made for children - with children.

Copenhagen Summer Dance

Copenhagen Police Headquarters August 5th – 11th 2013

This summer's big dance event at the Copenhagen Police Headquarters. For the ninth time in a row, Danish Dance Theatre invites to open air dance in Copenhagen Police Headquarters – one of the most beautiful places in the city – which is only open to the public during this week. The program is filled with international world-class dance. 

Danish Dance Theatre performs at Sadler's Wells in London

The company will present a pas de deux at Alina Cojocarus' galla event at Sadler's Wells, where the profits go to 'Hospices of Hope in Bucarest, Romania.

'Lilac Wine', a pas de deux from 'Love Songs'


Since the world premiere in Maj of 2011, Danish Dance Theatre has performed Love Songs 56 times both nationally and internationally. A touring program that includes USA, Israel, Germany, China, Italy, Cyprus, Hungary, Serbia and now Enland.
