Monolith

Tim Rushton’s much acclaimed work “Monolith” was originally created in 2011 for the renowned Rambert Dance Company. In May of 2012, Monolith will premiere with Danish Dance Theatre’s own international dancers at the Royal Theatre’s Old Stage in Copenhagen.

The stage is set as a landscape with fossil-like towers that mark a clearing in nature – a place to gather. Monolith is a tribute, not only to the greatness that characterizes the world’s monumental cultural works, but also to the people who created them with their presence, faith and mysteries.

The rhythms of Peteris Vasks’ gutsy score are the perfect backdrop of Rushton’s piece. The choreography is a dark & beautiful fusion of classic and contemporary styles that absorbs into one’s memory and strikes to the bone.
